Far on the outer edge of the old Commonwealth border, on the colony world of Sha’Lural, Shar’ya lived a hard life that had become the lot of many women after the fall of the Drakstrad empire.

Orphaned at the age of 7 cycles (8 1/2 years terran) when her mother died in an industrial accident, she was forced to find shelter in the dark levels below the city of Dahar. With some help from an aging friend of her mothers, she learned how to survive in the crowded undercity. Like many young females of the Commonwealth, she never knew her father or the reason for his absence.

Though ignorant of the larger picture, Shar’ya was one of millions of women who found themselves undervalued and forgotten. Despite the cruelty, heartaches, and hopeless outlook for her future, the young girl never lost her gentle nature and hope.
